Week #11

  1. What did you do this past week?

This past week I worked on phase 3 of the project with my group. I think we made good progress on it and with the deadline extension I think will be less time crunched to finish on time. I also got my first does of the Covid vaccine so that was pretty exciting. Additionally, I continued working on some other projects I have for other classes.

2. What’s in your way?

Right now nothing is in my way. I feel that the end of the semester is making be procrastinate so I can see that getting in my way. However, I am trying to fight that and be as productive as I can.

3. What will you do next week?

Next week my group will finish up phase 3 and turn that in. I also have other projects and assignments due next week so I will do that as well. I also plan on learning and playing tennis with my friend so I am excited for that.

4. If you read it, what did you think of the Why getter and setter methods are evil?

I thought it was a very good read as it was a first for me. I have learned to use getters and setters in my intro CS classes but we never discussed in depth why they shouldn’t be used the and cons of them so this article was very informative. After reading it I understood how there are other ways for objects to communicate with each other without using getters and setters.

5. What was your experience of select, project, cross join and theta join? (this question will vary, week to week)

This concepts were new to me but it was relatively simple for me to pick up. It was interesting to see how some of these functions can be used in one another. It was a little hard to visualize exactly how they work at first but after a couple of examples I started getting the hang of it.

6. What made you happy this week?

This week I was really happy about the weather. It is starting to get hot as summer is approaching so I am enjoying the outdoors. I also got to bake a little bit over the weekend which was fun.

7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My group found a frontend library in React called React-Select that helps setting up filtering widgets. It shows the user which filter they have selected and also lets the user delete the filter too. https://react-select.com/home
